I thought it due me, to recoup the money I lost<br \/>\nAnd to make good the friends that left me,<br \/>\nFor the Governor to appoint me Canal Commissioner.<br \/>\nInstead he appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/pvdpoetry.com\/spoonriveranthology\/spoon-river-anthology\/editor-whedon\/\">Whedon<\/a> of the Spoon River <em>Argus<\/em>,<br \/>\nSo I ran for the legislature and was elected.<br \/>\nI said to hell with principle and sold my vote<br \/>\nOn Charles T.
