But few die, none resign.<br \/>\nThen I ran away and was gone a year on a lark.<br \/>\nBut she never complained. She said all would be well<br \/>\nThat I would return. And I did return.<br \/>\nI told her that while taking a row in a boat<br \/>\nI had been captured near Van Buren Street<br \/>\nBy pirates on Lake Michigan,<br \/>\nAnd kept in chains, so I could not write her.<br \/>\nShe cried and kissed me, and said it was cruel,<br \/>\nOutrageous, inhuman!
