Do battle with the descendants of those<br \/>\nWho bought land in the loop when it was waste sand,<br \/>\nAnd sold blankets and guns to the army of Grant,<br \/>\nAnd sat in legislatures in the early days,<br \/>\nTaking bribes from the railroads!<br \/>\nArise! Do battle with the fops and bluffs,<br \/>\nThe pretenders and figurants of the society column<br \/>\nAnd the yokel souls whose daughters marry counts;<br \/>\nAnd the parasites on great ideas,<br \/>\nAnd the noisy riders of great causes,<br \/>\nAnd the heirs of ancient thefts.<br \/>\nArise! And make the city yours,<br \/>\nAnd the State yours<br \/>\nYou who are sons of the hardy yeomanry of the<br \/>\nforties!<br \/>\nBy God !
